Better start working soon! Hallo everyone, good to see you all this year as well ^^

Question! Do we need to add several seconds of black at the beginning and end of the video?

Yeah, know that feeling XD
I am listening to music while playing videogames, that mainly gives me ideas.

I got some ideas, but I'm also planning to join "The Quickening" on amv.org so I'm not really sure how much time I've got to edit for this one. (I will probably get beaten on the first round tho, so should be fine XD)

No, you are not required to do so. But we do advice it. The reason is that often when AMVs end abruptly and they transition to the 'information screen' we put after it both the cut in video and audio can seem really sudden and could make for a lesser transition.

We've seen with AMVs which did end rather abruptly that they are fine on it's own but work less well in a long list of videos due to the apparent break in the flow, or just felt like they were cut short by a few miliseconds... something which you don't notice while watching just the single video but does show when watching a longer playlist.

When you watch your own video while editing, the extra black at the end also gives you more of an idea on how the AMV will end during the actual show (instead of simply your video player stopping). Having a sudden stop at the end of an AMV doesn't have to be a bad thing if that is your design, but the few seconds of 'black' (and silence) at the end simply makes for a smoother transition while also granting you more insight in how the video will run on the day itself during the competition.

(as hopefully clear from the FAQ) the 'black' and 'silent' ending do not count towards the 3 minute duration limit or the outro limit.

As a method of testing your own AMV, simply try making a playlist of a few videos (like your old AMVs or ones made by others), put at least 1 before and 1 after your AMV and see how it feels. In the end each AMV is judged individually so it doesn't directly influences the judging, but we can work together to make the show at Abunai! as epic as possible!
