Default Cosplay props rules + FAQ

Cosplay props rules + FAQ

General.

All items that fall within the Dutch weapon law are forbidden on the convention grounds and its surrounding areas.
If you are caught carrying any of these weapons, we will confiscate the item and notify the authorities.

You are allowed to carry props on the convention grounds if they are:
  • Small enough to be held in your hands or strapped on you.
  • Not made of any type of metal.
  • Not have sharp edges or points.
  • Light of weight (max 5 kilo's).
  • Not harmful to others.

In the following rooms you will have to place your prop under your seat. If the prop is too big, you will not be allowed to bring it inside the room.
  • The video rooms.
  • All event rooms.
  • The main stage area.

Large props are nice to look at, but can be difficult to control. That is why large props are not allowed in the following areas:
  • The Dealer room.
  • The Gameroom
  • All event rooms.
  • The main stage area.

Always make sure that you do not obstruct, annoy or harm others in any way.

If we feel that you are a danger to either yourself or others, we claim the right to take the item from you.

If you do not follow the rules, your prop will be taken by the stewards to the cloakroom. You can then claim the prop when you leave the convention.

Weapons explained:

Guns.
There are several types of cosplay guns. There are strict rules regarding toy guns in the Dutch law. If you bring a cosplay gun:
  • It must be unloaded (ammo is forbidden)
  • The tip of the gun must be brightly colored.
  • The trigger must be removed.
  • It cannot be made of metal.

Any gun that is used for a sports are forbidden.
These are not allowed to be carried outside of the sport area and thus not allowed on the convention grounds or its surrounding areas.

Bows:
If you bring a bow of any type to the convention it must be disarmed. This means that there can be no strain on the sinew.

Crossbows are forbidden by law and thus forbidden at the convention.

Battering weapons/sports items
The following items (but not limited to) are forbidden outside the photo shoots or fashion show.
  • Baseball bats
  • Tennis rackets
  • Hockey sticks
  • Training swords

All weapons will be checked by the stewards and in some cases you will have to get a purple bracelet to prove you are carrying a legal prop.
If you do not comply to the checks, you will be denied access to the convention.

- The steward manager and super stewards have the right to reclaim the bracelet if you break the rules after receiving it -

FAQ.
Frequently asked questions

Q: By law I may carry weapon X because I have a permit. Can I bring it to the convention?
A: No. If you need a permit to carry a certain weapon then it is a dangerous tool and even though you are allowed to carry it, others can be harmed by it.

Q: I am doing a cosplay of Assassins Creed and want to hide knives in my clothing. Is this allowed?
A: All Assassins Creed and cosplays like that series will be checked for hidden weapons. If the weapons are sharp or have a spring contraption to them, they will be removed.

Q: I want to bring a NERF-gun but don't want to take out the trigger.
A: Abunai will provide an alternative option for this issue at the cloakroom.

Q: I can’t bring my NERF gun to any convention, is it forbidden on Abunai! as well?
A: No. If you follow the rules regarding guns and get them checked at our post then it is allowed.

Q: I have a permit for AirSoft and I want to bring the weapon to Abunai.
A: You are not allowed to bring AirSoft to Abunai. These guns are still restricted by law to sports events and they look to much like real weapons.

As long as the blade parts are not sharp and the ends (tips/points) are rounded off it should be fine.
For any item though...dangerous behaviour will result in having to remove the prop.

On a sidenote...rules will get an update soon
