Default Cosplay Act Competition Cancelled

Regretfully we must inform you that the Cosplay Act Competition of Abunai! 2012 has been cancelled. Unfortunately there were not enough participants to hold this event. We hope you will all apply for participation again next year with your best ideas.

This way we can host an amazing show again next year!

We would also like to know your reasons for not participating this year. This way we can get insight in the underlying cause for the low number of applications for this year's competition. We hope to use these ideas to improve participation next year. Please send us an e-mail to the following address: cac<at>stichtingabunai<dot>nl.

I'm just thinking what could be the reason other than lack of applications for the cosplay comp?

This really seems strange......is this a relation to a lack of people registering for Abunai? :/

We have 3 types of Cosplay competitions:
* Cosplay Fashion Show (CFS)
* EuroCos Competition Preliminairies (ECC)
* Cosplay Act Competition (CAC)

Only this last one was canceled due to a lack of applications. As Rasha stated, all other competitions requiring pre-con signup are running fine (CFS/ECC/AMV/Karaoke/etc).

This has also absolutely no relation to visitor numbers because those are also doing well and are running as expected.

The CAC has always been seen as the 'main' cosplay competition looking back over the years. The last few years though we have seen a decrease in interest in acts (which do not require self-made costumes) and a steady interest still in the CFS (which does require self-made costumes).

For us it is interesting to know what is holding people back to participate in the CAC. And specifically from people who joined previously or have been thinking about joining. Second hand stories, stories based on hearsay or hypothetical arguments are often prone to a very singlesided and skewed view (sometimes only based on rumors) so often give less of an indepth notion on the matter.

Ok this is just my opinion.

I always make my own cosplay, I love to do that. But every year i want to make a better and more beautiful costume, so every year i spend more time on it.

I think with the acts its the same way. Every year they get better. When 5 years ago none had even heard of prerecorded audio now it's seems to be the norm. Also video is more used in acts these days.

Because of this also the expectations of the public gets higher every year.

To come up with a fresh and original act gets harder and harder.

We live in a time where we need to work and study and work out and socialize. So when do we have the time to go down to the other side of the country (because thats where your confriends live) and come up with a act. Especially when you only begin thinking of it when the sign ups are open.

So I can understand

Although I don't like it

My reason for not participating (I had wanted to) is simply that what I planned didn't work out. Our cosplay is just not finished yet.
One thing that I do find dificult is that the acts seem to need to be pre-recorded. I have no idea how to do that, so that's one of the reasons I could think of.

There is no rule that states that pre-recording is mandatory, we just recommend it.

the cosplay act competition has no age rule (neither does the CFS, the ECC is the only one). is there a specific reason why you wanted to wait for a year?
