Default Live Action Role Play (request... for next year?)

I say we steal this thing from Otakon!(and other cons that have done this before... like old-skool fantasy RP...)

Anyway, how about it?
Doing Role Playing sounds like fun to me and I havn't come across it yet.. kinda strange..
It does require a bit of organising, but I believe it's quite possible to pull off..

http://loricannon413.tripod.com/otalarp/otalarp/faq.htm <- this is the FAQ from the Live Action Role Play event from Otakon..

(somehow this post seems a bit bland.. and hella messy for a first post of a request post... ma ii ka~)

uhm i agree it sounds fun but uhm....
isn't it easyer to roleplay all out of just 1 series
like naruto or .hack
if you say it early then everyone who wants to perticapete can make a costume if they do not have it already

but yay i wanna do it to

i dont think people would want to make an extra costume, just to participate in roleplaying. it's much easier if you can use the one you already have.

While I agree that this sounds interesting, it would need a LOT of work preparing.
There needs to be a full ruleset (stats, etc.)
This will need to be able to accomodate a lot of anime-esque things, which is mostly high-power stuff and therefore extremely difficult to balance.
There is the need to define a LOT of characters.
There will need to be a seperate area to hold this in (don't confuse random people !)
There will need to be a story (a series of events) which can be influenced by the players.
And finally you will need a couple of experienced GM's (especially if working with new players).

So, unless there magicaly appear some LARP-ers on staff I don't think this'll happen. However I would love to see this.

regards,

Herman

Right-o, thanks for writing down nearly what I couldn't!

Let's like... steal some LARP-ers from some kinda fantasy LARP thing.. surely we can persuade some of them to enter the unrivalled world of anime and leave behind the oh-so-futile world of dragons, knights.. and ehm.. caves!

miraizou and me were planning on going on our first larp at the beginning of september (pandromeda, special larp in the north of the netherlands) but we can't make it unfortunately...

it's hard to do something like this at a one day event with so much other fun stuff to do...

you could make it with D & D rules, and I've also heard something like naruto 20d with both there are excisting rules so those won't have to be made.

For role playing games, there are three different platforms
- Live Roleplaying
- Pen and paper role playing
- Computer role playing games

if you look at the platform from a ruls perspective, there's a huge difference between them.
Computers are capable of generating huge amounts of random numbers and can there for create live combat, or let you use your skills at any time.
Pen and paper is a bit more resticted rules wise, you can only generate so much random number until it gets boring. however you make up for it by having the freeddom to let you do anything you can imagine.
LARP's however have very little to no time at all to generate random numbers, so you will have to act out each combat and the skill of you character is actually (to some extend) limited to your own skill.

the point of this post is to point out that there is no way you can fully transfer the rules of a pen and paper roleplaying game lijke naruto d20 to a larp. I do agree that it is an intesting idea to larp anime characters, however rules wise it's very difficult.

Then you look at Dungeons and Dragons style or something.
There is a D&D game which is in the Japanese Culture

*strikes someone with his sword*
Ok, let's see. I got a +4 to hit.
*sits down, grabs his dice and rolls*
Yes, a 20. A Critical!
*Rolls again for critical*
What's your Armor Class? 16? Then I hit!
*Rolls damage*
You take 20 points of damage.
*Stands up while his opponent falls back from the damage.*
Now it' you turn to strike!!

And that's the reason you don't wat to use DnD rules. Not because Edward Elric isn't a wizard with transmutation specialties but because every roll with the dice you have to make takes to much time! This also goes outside of combat but even more in combat.
