I'm in, already started it editing. Now hoping that there will not be any technical problems on the convention it self, that all the amv's will be shown good ^.^
or this will be the last one for me

every year there is another (new) technical problem we face but every year we also grow in experience on how to prevent such problems. additional steps will be taken yet again this year to make sure things will run smoothly.

the problem is that with the many codecs, formats and containers around, and different versions of those, it is often hard to get everything running equally smoothly. one way to prevent such a problem is doing things through dvd's but as can be seen at animecon: that isn't a perfect solution either.

yet another option would be to completely limit the compo to a single codec (version) and container, but this can severely cripple some people who are either less advanced or more advanced and use different tools to create their amazing pieces of art.

I believe last year there was only one AMV (please correct me if I'm wrong, it's already quite a while back ) which had audio problems on the machine we ended up playing the AMV's on due to such a codec problem which had not been happening at any time before the actual compo even though we thouroughly test all the AMV's on such things.

again, we are taking steps to make sure this doesn't happen and we have an experienced crew behind it all to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible.

Saniiro-San, if i may correct you?

The problems at the AnimeCon AMV compo were not linked to the use of dvd's. The machine used was the popcorn hour, which perhaps had a bad codec on board. Also, the beamer was severely mis-alligned and its colour settings were very off.

In my oppinion, unless there is a way of playing without error for certain, the burning to a dvd (or blue-ray), with the voting screens (if any, last years screens were fillers. Funny fillers, but fillers non the less) added in place, and a backup dvd player standing by is the way to go. To bad for the upper lever editors, but that is the price to pay, they should be more into teaching new editors how to do things. (proud to say he guides a lot of newbee editors to the compo's, this year as well).

both K-Lite aswell as CCCP have a gazillion different versions and no matter what you do, some mixes of codecs simply won't go right in some situations (as evident by last years AMV which suddenly had latency on the audio track even though all 5 systems we tested it on before showed absolutely no signs of this even though all systems were uptodate).

we are taking steps to make sure this doesn't happen again and work hard to provide a completely hickup free compo :-]

I'll get back to you on this with information from the experts (other people who visit the forum like Ikarias and other editors can also give you lots of tips on this).
