FAQ

Q: What is an AMV?
A: It's an Anime Music Video. Create your own music video for a chosen song using Anime, Manga stills, (fan)art, Games, Live Action, or anything else Japan related. The video material has to be Japan related in some form. The audio can be of any source (Japanese or not).

Q: Can I send in an AMV I used in another AMV contest?
A: No, your video has to be an original video which had no prior screening yet (this ofcourse does not count close friends/family for feedback purposes, but applies to any public showing or other (online) compo's).

Q: Can I enter with multiple AMV's?
A: No, you may only enter with one AMV.

Q: How long may the AMV be?
A: 3 minutes is the maximum for all participating AMV's

Q: What type of video codecs can I use?
A: You can use one of the following codecs: WMV, DivX, XviD, H.264, MPEG

Q: What type of container (file extention) can I use?
A: The following filetypes are accepted: WMV, AVI, MKV, MP4, MPG, MOV

Q: What types are not accepted?
A: Other filetypes like FLV, SWF, ASF and other exotic formats

Q: What resolution should I use?
A: Make sure the resolution is always MOD16. A minimum resolution of [4:3]640x480 is required. Examples would be: [Widescreen] SD 704x400, HD 1280x720, [4:3] SD 640x480, HD 1280x1024

Q: Widescreen or 4:3?
A: We don't know what the beamer will support. If it only supports 4:3 and the video is Widescreen it will get black bars added (same as 4:3 on a Widescreen beamer).

Q: What bitrate should I use for the compression?
A: Use a bitrate of at least 1000kb/s

Q: Is there a maximum filesize
A: The filesize of the video may not exceed 600MB

Q: What can't I put in my AMV?
A: Any explicit or discriminating content (nudity, gore), Ecchi is allowed but subject to review by the judges. Remember the audience also holds minors.

Q: Can my AMV have an intro/outro?
A: Yes it can. The intro may be in the form of credits of the creator, the outro may contain greetings, best wishes, thanks, etc. Neither the intro, nor the outro, may contain other forms of credits (like music used/anime used/title of the amv/etc, we will add this ourselfs from the information supplied in the textfile) and their combined length may not exceed 30secs (but do not count towards the maximum duration of the AMV).

Q: How can I sign-up?
A: Send an email using the email form on the website. This email will have to contain:

• Your name
• Your Email
• Subject starting with the text: [AMV]
• Your registration number (or payment code if no registration number received yet)
• Download Link to the AMV

Q: How should I supply the AMV to you?
A: There are a few things to take note of:

• First of all, you will have to supply a place where we can download it from. This can either be FTP or hosted on a website. IF you don't have your own hosting available, a website like http://www.megaupload.com/ works well.
• We do NOT accept video hosting websites like Youtube, Megavideo, or other hosting websites which do not supply the ability to download the video (free of charge) in original quality.
• The Video should be packaged in an archive (ZIP, RAR, 7z) together with a (plain) textfile containing the following:
  - Your real name
  - Your email address
  - Your visitornumber (or payment code)
  - Your nickname (if any)
  - if you want your nickname or realname to be used in the announcements
  - Title of the Video
  - Video material used (anime series, manga's, sources of fanart, etc)
  - Audio used (artists, albums, songs, sources if available)
  - [Optional] Any additional information about you and the video (like how many AMV's you've made, previously won prices, any specific information you think might interest the judges)
• The video filename should look like: (nick)name_-_title_of_the_video.extention, e.g.: saniiro_-_My_First_Amv.mp4
• The textfile should be named the same but with the extention .txt (so no doc(x)/pdf/odt)
• The archive file containing the above mentioned video and text file should be named in the same fashion, e.g.: saniiro_-_My_First_Amv.zip

Q: What is the deadline?
A: The deadline is monday 07-09-2009 @ 7:00 AM, so that is Monday 7th of september at 7am in the morning. All sign-ups (including the downloadlink) recieved after this will be queried if they want to have their AMV shown but not participate in the competition.

Q: Which day will the AMV Compo be and do I have to be present at the show?
A: The AMV Compo will be on sunday, and all participants will have to be present at the show. You will recieve more instructions after we have recieved your sign-up. Exceptions can be made...

I remembered that right after I posted

I took 600MB as a maximum. I first wanted to do 500MB or slightly lower but noticed that we had a few submissions in the previous years just exceeding the 500MB so I put it a little higher.

Okay, this may be the stupidest question ever, but I've stared at Vegas for a while and couldn't really come up with what it means so...:
What's the bittrate of the video, and how can I make sure it's the good size? :P hadn't ever took notice of that kind of thing while editing before...

Oh! I had one theory :P when I'm rendering my vid in .wmv format it asks me if I want it to be a '56 kbps, 100 kbps' some more of those or '3 mbps' video, is it that? :P

hm.. And now I have to get to the actual finishing of the vid x'3 *runs away*

[file][render]zet [save as type] op windows avi. Zet je [template] op een NTSC of PAL naar keuze. Als je niet zeker weet welke, test ze uit.

Als je dat gedaan hebt, let me know, dan help ik je verder als je formaat boven de 600MB valt.

Edit. en nee, domme vragen bestaan niet, ik ben dan ook altijd bereid om mensen te helpen met amv's maken.

... but you'll have to ask him in what '1000' means. I think it's 1 mbps, because the literal meaning '1000 bits' would translate to 1 kbps and I think that's a bit silly I guess. But hey, I'm not the pro here. =P

correct, the 1000 stands for kb/s. that means 1mb/s
